2009 – AGAPE and MS Society

The two charities selected for the 2009 BADCo pantomine The Panto That Time Forgot are:

AGAPE (Abbeydale, Gooty and Abbeymead Partnership in Education)

Multiple Sclerosis Society

Proceeds from the 2009 BADCo production will be split between the British Energy charity, the MS Society, and AGAPE.

The MS Society is the UK’s largest charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.

The Society funds MS research, runs respite care centres, provides grants , education and training on MS. It produces numerous publications on MS and runs a freephone specialist helpline (0808 800 8000).

They are committed to bringing high standards of quality health and social care within reach of everyone affected by MS and to encourage and support medical and applied research into its cause and control.
With a network of branches & regions across the UK, the Society has a national centre in London and national offices in Northern Ireland, Scotland an Wales.
The Abbeydale, Gooty and Abbeymead Partnership in Education (AGAPE – also means ‘selfless love’ in ancient Greek) is a project to rebuild two primary schools for children of the poor in Gooty, Andhra Pradesh, South India. We aim to raise £20,000 to complete the project and help provide decent facilities and equipment to replace semi-collapsed buildings. The photo shows some of the children outside the remains of one of the school buildings, which partially collapsed in monsoon rains over a decade ago.

Both schools provide completely free education to children of poor families. Students receive a free meal every day, which plays a vital part in encouraging parents to send their children to school, as otherwise they would be working in order to help the family income.

Fundraising partners include Heron Primary School in Abbeydale, Abbeymead Primary School and Christchurch Abbeydale, working together to improve the lot of some 400 young children in Gooty.

We are delighted that British Energy at Barnwood have chosen AGAPE as one of the charities to benefit from this year’s pantomime, and we are very grateful to you for your generosity. For further information about AGAPE, please contact Les Mather on 01452-500569.
